Mitch Glickman

 

As a conductor, composer, and producer, Mitch Glickman's diverse background covers the fields of concert, jazz, film and television music. He founded the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra in 2001, and formerly served as Associate Music Director of the American Jazz Philharmonic, created by composer/conductor Jack Elliott.

Glickman has conducted many of today's leading jazz artists in concerts across the country including Ray Brown, Bud Shank, the Turtle Island String Quartet and Phil Woods, and has led such diverse ensembles as the American Jazz Philharmonic, United Kingdom Symphony Orchestra and the South Florida Youth Orchestra. He served as Assistant Musical Director of the New York Lyric Opera's production of Monteverdi's “Coronation of Poppea."

Glickman's symphonic compositions include “What's He Thinking?” (A Not-So-Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra) and “Kaleidoscope March” for solo clarinet and orchestra. Other orchestral concert works include "Olympic Memories," composed for trumpeter Byron Stripling and "Chapters" commissioned by the Turtle Island String Quartet.


His composing and arranging credits include the acclaimed independent films “Street of Pain” starring Steve Carrell and “Proudheart" starring Lorrie Morgan, along with such television series as “Cheers,” “Life Goes On,” “Night Court,” “Grammy Living Legends” and the annual “Grammy Awards” telecast. Glickman has also worked as music production supervisor for the Emmy Award winning dramas, "Picket Fences" and "The Practice.” He has composed and arranged music for a broad range of commercials including Prodigy, Lexus, Coca-Cola, Fox Sports, Life Cereal and McDonalds. Glickman's musical theater credits inculde the one-act musical “Tonight's Winning Numbers,” presented at the Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop.


Glickman has produced a number of recordings including The Bud Shank Sextet Salutes Harold Arlen, Young Musicians Debut Orchestra with conductor Lalo Shifrin, Guido Basso, and the American Jazz Philharmonic for GRP Records, which received a Grammy Award nomination.


Glickman also serves as Director of Music Programs for LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art). As an educator, he leads assemblies, master classes and workshops across the country, and is a teaching artist for the Los Angeles Music Center's Educational Division. Glickman is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
